I wonder if we need to rethink light-rail expansion to Clark County in favor of express bus lanes. It seems there will soon be more modern all-electric buses that could include extensive automation and perhaps be self-driving in 10 to 20 years. Modern, quiet, battery-run buses in dedicated lanes could be every bit as comfortable and popular as trains. Bus lanes should be much less expensive to build and maintain. Bus lanes do not require the long, gentle slopes and curves that trains do. Bus lanes might be shared with select self-driving carpool vehicles. Bus lanes can be used by emergency vehicles or by cars in an emergency evacuation. A breakdown will not close the line, and it would be much easier to adapt to change. Light rail is not the most modern technology. Could a switch to bus lanes save the Interstate Bridge replacement?
