Priyanka Chopra says 'every vote is a voice that counts' as Bollywood takes part in Indian election

Some of its biggest stars came out early to vote across the city's six constituencies. On social media, they showed off their inked fingers -- marked with indelible ink by officials to prevent people from casting more than one ballot -- and encouraged people to vote.
One of the most closely watched races in Mumbai is for the Mumbai North seat, which actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar is contesting against one of the ruling BJP's strongest leaders, incumbent Gopal Shetty.
Shetty has maintained a loyal base in the seat, which Matondkar, running for the Congress Party, is hoping to flip this year. Matondkar encouraged people to vote through a post on her Instagram account.
Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who recently got married to Nick Jonas in a lavish ceremony, flaunted her inked finger on Instagram and wrote, "This is the moment that matters.... Every vote is a voice that counts."
Bollywood power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai posted a photograph of themselves together on Twitter after voting.
Salman Khan, one of the most popular actors, tweeted his photo with the #VotekarMumbai asking people of the city to vote.
Anupam Kher, a prominent Bollywood star who has appeared in many international films, also voted early in the morning.
And actress Madhuri Dixit Nene encouraged people to use their vote "wisely."
India's elections are fiercely competitive: a total of 8,251 candidates were fielded from 464 parties in the last general election in 2014.
More than 70 constituencies are in play on Monday in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Bihar.
This is slated to be the smallest phase since elections began earlier this month. Three more phases are due in the coming weeks with the next phase scheduled for May 6.
