Unless they're cut out of the movie.
To their surprise, Netflix streamers in the UK trying to enjoy the 2004 romantic drama were subjected to an alternate ending that was much more anticlimactic.
Instead of the aged couple dying in their sleep in each other's arms, the movie cuts to a flock of birds flying over a lake.
Understandably, viewers were upset. All they wanted was a good cry.
Even Nicholas Sparks, the author of the novel the movie is based on, said he preferred the original ending.
"I didn't know it was coming, right?" Sparks told the "Today" show. "I liked the original film."
Netflix said the flying-birds ending was not its doing and that a version of the movie with an alternate ending was supplied to the streaming service.
"Apparently some films have more than one ending?!" Netflix tweeted Wednesday.
On Thursday Netflix uploaded the "correct" version of the film, restoring the bittersweet ending we all know and love.
So get out those tissue boxes -- you'll need them now.
